Imax announced that Avatar grossed a record breaking $9.5 million from 178 IMAX theatres domestically

The film is scheduled to open on 25 additional IMAX screens internationally in the coming weeks, including in Japan and China. The worldwide IMAX opening weekend box office total is estimated to be $13.6 million as of the end of day Sunday, December 20, 2009.

Technically, IMAX has been showing support around $10.9 and resistance in the $13.3 range. The buying signal is on now but not strong.

There soes seem to be strong resistance at or around the $13 per share mark. However any dramatic price movement will be brought about by the ticket sales or lack of ticket sales on Avatar. This is a major fundamental event taking place now, that will trump any technical moves.
